چکیده

Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is a valuable staple crop that provides nutrition for large part of the human population around world. However, domestication process reduced its resistance to pests and pathogens. Phytophthora infestans, causal agent late blight disease, most destructive pathogen potato plants. Considerable efforts have been made develop blight-resistant cultivars, but success has limited present-day production requires extensive use fungicides. In this review, we summarize known sources obstacles in P. infestans control. We outline problematic aspects chemical treatment, possible biological control, available resources natural wild Solanum accessions. focus on prospective putative markers are often overlooked genome-centered studies, including secondary metabolites from alkaloid, phenylpropanoid, terpenoid classes, lipids, proteins, peptides. discuss suitability these molecules marker-assisted selection possibility increasing speed conventional breeding more resilient cultivars.

Accumulation and Resistance to Phytophthora infestans

Active oxygen species (AOS) are responsible for triggering defense responses in plants. Respiratory burst oxidase homologs ( rboh genes) have been implicated in AOS generation. We have isolated two rboh cDNAs, NbrbohA and NbrbohB , from Nicotiana benthamiana leaves. NbrbohA was expressed constitutively at a low level and the transcripts were increased after mechanical stress of control leaf inf...

A Phytophthora infestans RXLR effector targets plant PP1c isoforms that promote late blight disease

Plant pathogens deliver effectors to alter host processes. Knowledge of how effectors target and manipulate host proteins is critical to understand crop disease. Here, we show that in planta expression of the RXLR effector Pi04314 enhances leaf colonization by Phytophthora infestans via activity in the host nucleus and attenuates induction of jasmonic and salicylic acid-responsive genes. Pi0431...

Multiple recognition of RXLR effectors is associated with nonhost resistance of pepper against Phytophthora infestans

Nonhost resistance (NHR) is a plant immune response to resist most pathogens. The molecular basis of NHR is poorly understood, but recognition of pathogen effectors by immune receptors, a response known as effector-triggered immunity, has been proposed as a component of NHR. We performed transient expression of 54 Phytophthora infestansRXLR effectors in pepper (Capsicum annuum) accessions. We u...

Acquired Resistance to Mefenoxam in Sensitive Isolates of Phytophthora infestans.

The systemic fungicide mefenoxam has been important in the control of late blight disease caused by Phytophthora infestans. This phenylamide fungicide has a negative effect on the synthesis of ribosomal RNA; however, the genetic basis for inherited field resistance is still not completely clear. We recently observed that a sensitive isolate became tolerant after a single passage on mefenoxam-co...
